What was wrong
Defect
THE SHOCK ABSORBER ATTACHMENT BRACKET TO THE SWAY LINK BAR HAS REINFORCEMENT WELDS THAT CAN FAIL DUE TO AN ASSEMBLY PROBLEM. THE ATTACHMENT BRACKET CAN BREAK AWAY FROM THE SHOCK ABSORBER AND REMAIN ATTACHED TO THE SWAY LINK BAR, AND CAN THEN FALL INTO AND DAMAGE OR PUNCTURE THE PROXIMAL TIRE.
Risk
FAILURE OF A TIRE CAN RESULT IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROLAND POSSIBLY AN ACCIDENT.
Manufacturer remedy
CONSUMERS CAN EXCHANGE THEIR CURRENT SHOCK ABSORBERS WITH A REDESIGNED MODEL WHICH INCLUDES A THICKER ATTACHMENT BRACKET, IMPROVED WELDING PENETRATION, AND AN ADDITIONAL REINFORCEMENT WELD. IF THE REDESIGNED SHOCKS ARE NOT AVAILABLE, CONSUMERS WILL BE ALLOWED TO REPLACE THEIR CURRENT SHOCKS WITH A PRODUCT OF SIMILAR SPECIFICATIONS MANUFACTURED BY ANOTHER COMPANY.
